HOMELESS PEOPLE IN OUR COMMUNITY
HOMELESS PEOPLE SHOULD BE EMPOWERED TO OWN A HOME.
Owning a home is a wish to every individual who still breath
in this beautiful world. Many have succeeded in this while others are in a
total struggle to have a place for at least to lay their head. Some inherited
properties including houses while others due to their hard work and savings
happened to build a home that fitted their budget. But still more than 83% all
over the world are homeless.
In Africa, having a family with a home is considered as a
big achievement in the society. Long are the days when no one needed to
struggle to have a home. A land to a build a house was automatically given to a
boychild as gift upon getting married. Those are the days of our ancestors
before no one knew of colonization. In today’s world, land as a gift is hard to
receive.
Most communities in Kenya believe and associate wealth is
obtained after passing through education system. To some extent, this sounds to
be true but on the other hand, people who have never been in class or rather
drop outs are the ones who employ those who completed school with good academic
papers. What could be the meaning of this? Education is not a guarantee to
owning wealth and a home. Most graduates are jobless and homeless.
The government of Kenya is trying its best to build
affordable houses to its citizens instead of creating employment opportunities
so as people can earn income which may support them to build homes on their
own. Street families have become rampart in urban areas like Nairobi, Kisumu,
Nakuru, Mombasa, Kehancha and many other major towns. The government assumes
that by building the so-called affordable houses will end this stag mare. The
question is, where will this street families get money to buy or pay for the
rent of these houses?
The only way to end the problem of people being homeless is
by, the government educating its citizens, offering beneficial trainings,
creating employment opportunities to them, ensuring working environment is
conducive and using other financial bodies to guide them on how to save and
invest. With this approach, trust me people will have good standards of living
and no individual will be homeless.
