COMRADES' PROBLEMS ARE OURS TOO
Comrade's life is not as easy as you may be thinking. They pass through a lot of while pursing their careers at the university level. For those who may be wondering what does this word 'comrade' means, I have an answer to your question. A comrade is name given to a student at tertiary institutions i.e., universities and colleges.
Students at universities go through a lot of challenges which sometimes force them to drop out of school, delay in completion of their studies or rather failure to graduate.
Photo profile: Students in a class roomFirstly, most comrades are financially unstable. Most come from poor family backgrounds. They lack money to pay for their school fees on time thus they are denied the right to access exam cards which enable them to sit for their examinations.
Others go by their duties hungry or even sleep during the night empty stomachs. These hinders them from concentrating in their studies and end up failing in examinations.
In connection to that, THE GREAT KURIA MEDIA happened to meet students from a certain university in the Coastal region who openly said that they were at point where the circumstances are forcing them to drop out of campus. The main reasons being that they are struggling to make their ends meet while at the same time studying. They cited that they lacked school fees, money to buy food, money to pay the rent among other basic needs.
Indeed this showed how comrades are suffering out there silently waiting for a miracle to happen. One may wonder if HELB really support students in the higher learning institutions. Yes, it does but the loan offered is not enough to cater for all comrade's needs. This means, the money disbursement is very little.
Second, The population in these universities is very big. The lectures are unable to interact one one with each student in class to evaluate if one understands what has been taught. Others end up completing school without mastering the art of their careers. This makes them become useless in the job industry.
Third, love relationship in the institutions are out pacing the ones in authority or rather administration. Comrades kill each other because of unhealthy love relationship. Many have become players and ones the other partner realize that he or she is being cheated, finds a way to murder the ones responsible and later commit suicide.
Another challenge is insecurity. Most students who study in these institutions are from rural areas. As they stay in big towns studying, they face many actions related to iinsecurity.Comrades getrobbed with violence, attacked and injured in the process of defending themselves.
For the case of Technical University of Mombasa, high percentage of students live in the outskirts of Mombasa city. This means, most are from Nyali West, Mshomoroni, Kisauni and the rest. These students are prone to dangerous goons and groups which rob, attack and injure comrades mercilessly. Most of these groups are comprised of 'mateja' (drug addicts). Comrades from these dangerous places cannot do anything or even run away from the zones because the house rent here match their pockets.
Lastly, is the peer pressure. An innocent individual just passed well with good grades in secondary school gets spoiled in a fraction of a second due to bad company influences. Comrades once termed as a good person turns to be avoided in the society due to consumption of illegal drugs such as alcohol and bhang. Excessive usage of narcotics by comrades hinders them from achieving what they went to do in campus.
Students who are planning or looking forward to joining this comrades league should be ready to overcome these and many challenges awaiting them so as to live peaceful in campus.
What do you think, is it high time for comrades to speak out what they are going through?
Problems will never end so as comrades we must continue Fighting

ReplyDeleteCampus has a lot to offer. Acquiring knowledge being the main reason as to why we go to campus, we also get to learn lessons, lessons that aren't thought I'm class. Life, how to live with people, how to cope up with some critical and challenging situations. It's a must pass process. There is no shortcut. We only need to be out brothers keeper, learn to speak out minds, you'll realize you not going through hard times alone, by realizing that, you'll keep on pressure having in mind that you're not alone in such situations. Let's reach out our friends, people are dying silently, depression is really. People fake smiles when we meet but they are dying inside. Let's open up, let's share our life experiences, let's encourage one another. That's the only way to fight this. No shortcut.... Stay safe comrades. God above allπππ
